引起牛顎腫病的牛型放線菌是此屬的典型代表。另一類是衣氏放線菌，它寄生于人體，可引起后顎骨腫瘤和肺部感染。它們的生長需要較豐富的營養，通常在培養基中加放血清或心、腦浸汁等。小單孢菌屬小單孢菌屬(Micromonospora)菌絲體纖細，直徑0.3~0.6微米，無橫隔膜、不斷裂、菌絲體侵入培養基內，不形成氣生菌絲。只在菌絲上長出很多分枝小梗，頂端著生一個孢子。菌落比鏈霉菌小得多，一般2-3毫米，通常橙黃色，也有深褐、黑色、藍色者；菌落表面覆蓋著一薄層孢子堆。此屬菌一般為好氣性腐生，能利用各種氮化物的碳水化合物。大多分布在土壤或湖底泥土中，堆肥的廄肥中也有不少。此屬約30多種，也是產抗生素較多的一個屬。例如慶大霉素即由絳紅小單孢菌和棘孢小單孢菌產生，有的能產生利福霉素、鹵霉素等共30余種抗生素。醫學認為，此屬菌產生抗生素的潛力較大，而且有的種還積累維生素B12，應予重視。鏈孢囊菌屬鏈孢囊菌屬（Streptosporangium）主要特點是能形成孢囊和孢囊孢子。

For example, gentamycin is produced by Micromonospora erythraea and Micromonospora echinospora, and some produce more than 30 kinds of antibiotics such as rifamycin and halomycin. According to medical science, this genus has the potential to produce antibiotics, and some species also accumulate vitamin B12, which should be taken seriously. Streptosporangium belongs to the genus Streptosporium. Its main characteristics are the formation of cysts and cyst spores.
